Instructions for

Using the Epson TM T88 (I, II, or III) Receipt Printer

Use these instructions for any TM T88 (I, II, or III)

What Printer Driver To Use

There are two Epson TM-T88II printer drivers--a Partial Cut and a No Cut.

Use the EPSON TM-T88II Partial Cut driver. The Partial Cut printer driver automatically cuts whenever a print job is finished.

Partial Cut means it leaves a very tiny piece of the receipt connected. As you lift the receipt, this tiny part easily tears. This feature prevents sales slips from getting caught in the wind, sending cashiers and customers dashing for runaways.

This printer driver is located in the Epson file tdr160e.exe available on our web site.

Driver Settings (Win95/98/Me)

You can use the default printer driver's settings with this one exception. If you print long receipts, you may find you get about an inch and a half of blank space (and then a cut with the partial cut driver) if you print a receipt that exceeds 11 inches. This is a latent form feed. Follow these steps to stop this:

A. Click on the Start button, and then click on Settings, then Printers.

B. Right click the Epson TM T88 Partial Cut driver icon, and select Properties.

C. Select the Paper tab then click on the Custom Paper Size.

D. Change the Length from the 600 setting to several thousand (i.e., 12000, .01 inch units).

E. Click OK. The selection will stay on the new Custom setting.

F. Click OK to close the driver.

A. Select SETUP|EQUIPMENT if you have a Cash Drawer connected to the TM-T88.

B. Select the Cash Drawer tab.

C. Select TM Series Printer, under Cash Drawer Connection.

D. Select Save and Exit.

Note: Both the Epson and Star printers use RJ11/12 (telephone) connectors for their cash drawer drivers. However, Epson and Star wire these connections differently. So a cash drawer wired for a Star cannot be opened by an Epson and vice versa. If you ordered the cash drawer and printer together, you should have the correct cash drawer cable. However, if you are switching from a Star printer you will have to call the company you purchased the cash drawer from for a solution.

LOGO/BITMAP IMAGE ON RECEIPT

A logo/bitmap can be placed on the receipt. Place the bitmap file in the following path: c:\winpos40\images\poslogo.bmp. If "c:" is the local drive where the POS Program was loaded.

The file must be named poslogo.bmp. The sample file "Rod's Pet World" was created using Window's Paint (START|PROGRAM FILES|ACCESSORIES\PAINT) in less than 5 minutes. The width is 272 pixels and the height is 70 pixels.

The bitmap file slows down the printing a bit, but the TM T88 is so fast it does not matter much. If you need extremely fast receipts, you will want to limit the logo size, or leave it off altogether.

The printer must be told how far to move down past the bitmap image. If you do not move down far enough, the heading or start of the receipt will print on top of the image. This is generally not desirable. The Rod's Pet World example bitmap file took 4 lines to move the heading under the image (70/4=17.5 pixels per line). So to determine your distance in lines, you can divide the height by 17.5. Adjust to your preference from there.

PROPORTIONAL FONTS OR STANDARD FONTS HEADING

The body of the receipts are printed with the TM T88 internal 15 cpi fonts. This is the fastest way to print.

You may select either proportional fonts or standard fonts for the receipt heading. The proportional fonts are Windows True Type fonts (Times New Roman) and the standard fonts are the TM T88 internal 15 cpi fonts. The internal fonts print faster, but the contrast between the two fonts enhances the overall look of the receipt. So unless you need an extremely fast receipt, you will want to try the proportional option.

If heading size becomes an issue, you can fit more heading information on a line using the standard fonts than the proportional fonts.
